A Surprise Proposal on Sullivan's Island — Abigail & Corbin

Corbin told Abigail they were taking a walk on the beach before dinner.

What she didn't know: near Fort Moultrie — the Sullivan's Island side of Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historical Park — both of their families were waiting. Parents, siblings, friends, a circle of flowers set up in the sand, champagne on ice.

When he went down on one knee, she didn't believe it was real. That split second — disbelief turning into yes — is exactly why I photograph proposals from a distance first. You only get that face once, and my job is to be invisible until it's over.

Then came the part I love most: the two of them walking toward everyone they love, realizing the whole crowd was in on it. Hugs, tears, champagne, the circle of flowers. The light on the water did the rest.
